Coconut oil is made up of linoleic and lauric acid. It has the power to soothe irritated skin. Research finds that coconut oil is anti-inflammatory, can help stop damage caused by free radicals, and prevent infections. Did you know it is antimicrobial? In short, coconut oil is a good choice for acne prone or mature skin. Coconut also goes well with rum.
Avocado oil contains a large amount of chlorophyll and is high in vitamins A, B, D. It also has proteins, and yummy fatty acids. Avocado oil is a great choice for climate-parched, dehydrated, damaged skin. Avocado oil has nourishing, softening, and restorative properties that make it good for mature skin. Here you thought avocados were just good for guacamole!
Flaxseed balances skin pH, improves elasticity, and treats dryness. Flaxseed oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s fight inflammation and provide a nourishing, protective lipid barrier. Flaxseed oil can also help lock water into your skin, increasing hydration.
Jojoba oil comes from the seed of the Simmondsia chinensis plant. Even though it is called an oil, it is really a wax. This gives it an extremely long shelf life, which makes it a good natural preservative. That's not the only reason it's here though. Jojoba oil is the closest oil to the sebum we produce in our skin. That's what makes it so cool. Our skin absorbs it quickly and deeply. It is moisturizing, antibacterial, and antioxidant.
Apricot Kernel Oil contains Oleic Acids, Linoleic Acids, Alpha-Linolenic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E. If there were a Vitamin Z I’m sure Apricot would have it. It has everything else! Apricot Oil conditions dry, sensitive skin. It also smooths out blemishes, wrinkles, fine lines, and other symptoms typical of maturing skin. It has a light consistency and is non-greasy. Apricot oil is deeply penetrating. This leaves skin smooth with a silky texture. It is a good oil for aged, sensitive, dry, or inflamed skin. Basically it’s good for everyone and has all the things. It is one of the most overlooked carrier oils I have encountered.
Sunflower oil has high amounts of Vitamins A, B, D, E. It also has minerals like calcium, zinc, potassium, iron, and phosphorus. I did mention that plants make a lot of stuff right? Sunflower Oil is a regenerative skin softener and conditioner. Sunflower Oil is good for moisturizing all skin types. It is not too greasy for oily skin and not too light for dry skin. It’s the baby bear of carrier oils. It’s just right.
Shea Butter's vital components are Oleic acid, Stearic acid, Palmitic acid, Linoleic acid, and Vitamins A, E, and F. That is a mouthful. This combination helps neutralize free radical damage. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles some say can fade age spots. It can also stimulate collagen production. Shea butter is overall pretty awesome!
Sal butter comes from the Sal tree. Surprised? It is a very popular skin care ingredient in India. It is highly underused here. Sal butter is a great source of stearic and oleic acids. These help skin stay healthy and youthful. Sal butter also contains terpene alcohols. These have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Sal butter has a neutral scent and creamy texture. Sal butter leaves your skin velvety, smooth. It is by far my favorite carrier of all time.
Beeswax hydrates, conditions, soothes, and calms skin. In addition it promotes skin regeneration. Consequently it diminishes signs of aging. Some people like that kind of thing. Beeswax also forms a protective barrier against environmental pollutants. Beeswax is a humectant. In other words, it attracts and retains hydration in your skin. Retaining hydration is very important. I think I’ve said that before. The beeswax used in these products is ethically sourced. Bees deserve our respect. They're awesome and without them we will all die. Plus they have cute fuzzy butts.

Bergamot- Bergamot is both soothing and uplifting. It is a citrus and has a spicy, sweet scent.

Lavender- Lavender is a powerhouse of an oil. It is very popular and for good reason. It is a wonderful anti-inflammatory and an exceedingly calming oil.

Amyris- Amyris has a deep balsamic, woody scent. It is very warm and gives a solid base for the rest of the blend to come from. It is also anti-inflammatory.

All of these oils combine to put a little anti-inflammatory cherry on top of a powerfully hydrating cupcake!

This is where the magic of Tattoo juju comes in. These herbs are infused into the oils to add their own wound healing and anti-inflammatory magic to the mix.

Comfrey- increases cell production. This speeds wound healing. In fact, it's not advisable to use comfrey on deep wounds as it can heal the wound on the surface too fast. It is also soothing to irritated tissues.

Calendula- is a potent herb to use for all sorts of skin conditions. It is antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vulnerary (wound healing).

Plantain- (the herb, not the banana), contains several anti-inflammatory compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, glycosides, and tannins. In addition to this it blocks microbial growth, speeds the healing process and relieves pain. It's a win, win, win with this one.

Chickweed- has cooling and soothing properties. It is a powerful emollient, ani-inflammatory, and wound healing herb. Minor burns, lesions, acne, wounds, eczema, and insect bites all benefit from topical use of chickweed.

Yarrow- is a potent styptic (stops bleeding), and antiseptic herb. It is also anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, vulnerary, and a circulatory stimulant. All that to say this herb is a bad ass at healing wounds.

The Importance of Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoos are beautiful. They range from meaningful, to fun. Tattoos can be as simple or as complex as you want. Tattoos are also wounds. Tattoos are serious. Proper hygiene and aftercare cannot be overstated. Improper aftercare not only degrades your precious piece, more importantly, it can harmfully impact your health. Anytime there is a wound or trauma to the body there is a possibility for infection or scarring. Following your tattoo artists instructions and using quality products in aftercare is your first line of defense against infections and scarring.

Antimicrobials, anti-bacterials, and emollients are your best friend in tattoo aftercare. Top priorities are to keep it clean, hydrated, and to help the skin in repair itself. Keeping your piece from drying out and flaking is important to the longevity and vitality of your tattoo. This is the criteria Tattoo Juju tattoo aftercare was made to meet.
